He began his career in television and film before the advent of
videotape. In the late 1950's he worked for a major advertising
agency in New York as a producer of "live" TV commercials
and programs. He was in the vanguard of videotape production, and
pioneered and developed techniques in common use today. He was a
founder of the VPA, Videotape Producers Association, which has grown
to become a prominent national, and international, organization.
Bert Saperstein left advertising in the mid-1960's to produce at
the renowned New York Videotape Center. He then organized Jefferson
Broadcasting's commercial video production company and directed
programs and commercials for them. In 1972 he joined Skyline Films
where he produced and directed award winning videotape and film
programs, documentaries, commercials and industrials.
In 1975 Bert joined Windsor Total Video as Vice President where
he played a crucial role in growing that company into a major video
facility. He worked with Windsor, and continued to serve on the
VPA Board of Directors until his untimely death on May 6, 1983.
Since 1983, The Bert Saperstein Communication Scholarship Fund
has awarded more than $140,000 in modest scholarship awards. The
Fund is a non-profit, IRS and New York State qualified tax exempt,
not-for-profit charity chartered to continue awarding Bert Saperstein
scholarships, in perpetuity, as a fitting memorial to an industry
leader who always found time to help young people.
